He was the first person in his family to attend college. This meant that on his first day at Purdue, Tom Spurgeon ’61 had very little understanding of fraternities and the Greek system. However, on that day in 1957 when he pledged Phi Gamma Delta at Purdue, Tom would become part of something special. In the fall of 2014, Tom was asked to address his Lambda Iota brotherhood as the keynote speaker at the chapter’s annual Pig Dinner. In his address, Tom went on to highlight the successes of those ’56 and ’57 pledge brothers who joined him during those most important undergraduate years. Click below to read more.

When the fall semester of 2014 came to an end, Brother Bruce Pitman '71 began a new chapter of his life after serving the University of Idaho for 41 years, most recently as the dean of students and vice provost of student affairs. In honor of his retirement and selfless service, the Idaho State Board of Education renamed UI's Student Union Building The Pitman Center. We welcome this opportunity to reprint a short article about Bruce, which appeared in the spring 2015 edition of The Phi Gamma Delta.
