Purdue’s Hanley Hall Named After Lambda Iota Graduate and Wife

William G. Hanley and his wife Sally will have a building named for them on the Purdue campus. The $11.5 million building, will serve the academic needs of the growing College of Consumer and Family Sciences. The Bill and Sally Hanley Hall will house programs focused on early childhood education, child development, aging and family research with a focus on military families.

The couple contributed $3 million to the project.

"A high quality of life through all of life's stages is perhaps the greatest gift we could hope to contribute toward," Sally said.

"This building presented the perfect opportunity for us to extend our giving at Purdue," Bill Hanley added, according to a Purdue University press release. "Sally and her twin sister, Sue Berner Eibel, had a playschool at the family home during their college summers. Sally taught first and second grades. She also believes firmly in spending time with and supporting older people. Sally has volunteered with Mobile Meals both as a coordinator and driver."

The Hanleys received a silver shovel with their names engraved at the building’s pre-construction celebration in October.

“We want to give back to the communities and institutions that made us who we are,” said Bill. “Boiler up!”
