David Alexander '62 has a long-storied history in baseball and a family legacy at Purdue. He's joining the two together with the new John and Anna Margaret Ross Alexander Field, the $10.3 million baseball stadium. Dave made a lead gift to make the building of the new stadium possible and has given the namesake in memory of his parents, both of whom also attended Purdue as students.

"Purdue and baseball obviously have been a big part of my life, and I am pleased to be able to honor my great parents this way," Dave Alexander said.

Dave's Purdue career accomplishments include being the school's winningest coach with 407 victories between 1978 and 1991, setting a school record of 37 wins in 1986, and participating in the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history in 1987. He was inducted in the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.

After leaving coaching in 1991, Dave served two and a half years as the athletics department compliance officer before becoming a scout for the Seattle Mariners professional baseball team. He continues to live in Lafayette and scout for the Mariners.

Dozens of Phi Gam graduates attended the dedication ceremony on April 20, 2013 before the Boilers' game against Nebraska, including Athletic Director Morgan Burke '73 and President of the Seattle Mariners Chuck Armstrong '64. Chuck even launched into "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the end of the 7th inning.

In addition to his lifelong dedication to baseball, Dave has maintained a lifelong affiliation with Phi Gamma Delta too. He has served as Chapter Advisor, Purple Legionnaire and House Corporation president for Lambda Iota.

The new stadium is part of the $121 million Mackey Complex/Northwest Site master plan that was approved in 2007. With Dave's gift, fundraising will surpass $32 million, with the balance to be paid for with revenue received from Big Ten Conference television agreements and other department funds. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is self-supporting and receives no tax dollars or university funding. Alexander Field replaces the 1,100-seat Lambert Field, which has been home to Purdue baseball since 1965.
