“What kind of impact did Lambda Iota make on your life after Purdue? Friendships? The leadership you learned at the house? Something else? What's stuck with you? Weigh in!”

"During my time with FIJI, I learned tolerance in living with people of many different ideas and behaviors. Our original pledge class was a group of 18. A few in our year group were added and a few dropped out. Five or six are deceased. I still have contact with nine of the remaining ten living brothers in my class. We have cruised together as a group. We have met every five years on campus for a reunion going on 55 years. My wife and I have traveled frequently with one brother and his wife.

When thinking about what I learned about leadership at the house, observation of the many leaders in the house taught me that for the most part we are all the same except for those having ideas and perseverance to carry out those ideas along with ability to sell them to others. Leaders listen and do not vocalize their way into leadership. One thing that has stuck with me is that in the long run conservative behavior is a winner."
